Wedding Vows: Tips for Writing Them, Expert Says “Stay Away From Inside Jokes”

Many couples are opting to write their own marriage vows this wedding season. Founder of Love Notery, Kristen Rocco, who also teaches vow-writing, says when a couples script their own, it gives them the opportunity to speak straight from the heart:

(Rocco) “The wedding vow exchange is actually the most important part of the wedding day because these are the words that bind you as a married couple.”

If you and your sweetie are writing your own, Rocco says to start with why you want to spend the rest of your life with the other person. She advises to use notepads and apps to jot down things your partner does that make you happy:

(Rocco) “This exercise can really help you recognize all the tangible and intangible things about your fiancé, which you can then use to write your wedding vows.”
